IT’S TIME – SHOWTIME!
WALGETT SHOW IS ON THIS WEEKEND –
13TH & 14TH MAY!
No weeks to wait! Just days away! The Walgett Show is here! The Walgett Show is on this Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May at the Walgett Showground.
Last minute preparations are underway and final decisions are being made. The weekend will be filled with fun and frivolity, the expected and the unexpected, the astounding and the amazing…… what more could be promised!
Entertainment throughout both days and Saturday night will be varied offering something for all. Wander around and have a look. Check out every corner, you might find the unexpected! An attraction this year that many Show-goers may not have seen at Walgett Show before is the climbing wall. Base Zero Mobile Rock Climbing will have their eight-metre high wall. Four climbers can have a turn at once, so friends can race each other to the top. Alternatively, climbers can just take on the wall at their own pace. The Memphis Moovers will be back after a few years’ break. With their roving music (keep an eye out for new transportation), moovin’ balloonin’ and ukulele workshops, they are sure to entertain. Face-painting with Jolanda will be back, as will her first customer, Raja the Clown, who has a new suit this year! With the final list still being confirmed at the time of print, other entertainment program attractions include: the Animal Farm, musical performances by St Joseph’s Primary School choir and band, whip cracking, George Kelly Memorial Tug-O-War, Graincorp Fireworks and The Memphis Moovers band on Saturday night.
The Walgett Show will be opened by Sergeant Lisa Jones, 2016 NSW Rotary Police Officer of the Year. Lisa was the first female police officer to win this award whilst a member of Castlereagh Local Area Command based in Walgett. Lisa was also the winner of the BT Howard Memorial Trophy in 2016 for her contribution to the Walgett Show Society for that year. So come to the official Walgett Show opening on the grass outside the Gordon Pavilion on the Sunday of the Show at 11am, listen to Lisa open the Show and catch up.
Something special available at the Jan Marshall Memorial Hospitality Tent this year is the opportunity to treat mum to a Mother’s Day Breakfast @ the Walgett Show on Sunday 14th May 9am – 11am. Delicious home cooked pancakes, scrumptious croissants and tasty egg and bacon burgers will be on the menu. No excuses for forgetting Mother’s Day and an opportunity to redeem if forgotten!
The Frock On fashion parade on Saturday afternoon will be showing their new ‘Binny Wear’ range, which is Australian-made from natural fibres, merino wool knit etc. with the focus on labels promoting natural fibres including alpaca, cotton, lambs’ wool from Mandalay and Elk accessories. Also being showcased will be the new autumn/ winter race wear collection- dresses, felt hats and leather gloves in stock.
If you would like to be a part of the fashion parade models are required so if you would like to model the collections being shown please call Mel Bradley 0439 800 027.
Walgett Show Society President Brennan O’Keeffe, on behalf of the Walgett Show Society, welcomes all to 79th Annual Walgett Show and would also like to thank supporters and show-goers for their ongoing support which reflects in the success of the Walgett Show. “This year’s Walgett Show is shaping up to be a great community event for all”.
From trade displays and stalls to rides and sideshows, there is something for everyone. Come out to the Showground and see the Walgett Shire showcased through schoolwork, pavilion entries, agricultural and trade displays and promotions, speciality stalls, entertainment and interactive activities not to mention a highlight for young and old…. Sideshow Alley. See you at the Walgett Show.”
