About 1:10 pm on Wednesday 1st November, 2017 police from the Target Action Group were patrolling the Simms Opal Fields, Lightning Ridge in an unmarked police vehicle when they observed a beige coloured Subaru Brumby Ute travelling south, in the opposite direction at high speed. At this time, police were unable to stop the vehicle. About 5:45pm the same day police again sighted the vehicle and were able to stop it in Fantasia Street. The 30 year old male driver was submitted to a road side breath test which he failed. As a result the male was placed under arrest and transported to Lightning Ridge Police Station. At this time the male appeared intoxicated and became aggressive towards police. The male has subsequently been charged with
Drive with High range PCA, Drive While License Cancelled, Vehicle Displaying Misleading Number Plates, Use Unregistered Vehicle, Use Uninsured Vehicle. The male has been provided with conditional bail to appear before Lightning Ridge Local Court on 29th November, 2017.
As a result of a number of incidents between the 19th September and the 31st October, 2017 police arrested two young persons, both females at a Lightning Ridge address. As a result of the police investigation one Young Person has been charged with Armed With Intent to Commit and Indictable Offence x 2; Assault Occasion Actual Bodily Harm in Company; Assault Occasion Actual Bodily Harm and Common Assault, while the other has been charged with Use carriage Service to Menace, Harass, Offend; Assault Occasion Actual Bodily Harm in Company; Assault occasion Actual Bodily Harm; Armed with Intent to Commit Indictable offence x 2 and Common Assault. The Young persons have been provided with strict conditional bail to appear at Lightning Ridge Local Court on 29th November, 2017.
On Saturday the 4th November 2017 Police attended a Lightning Ridge address regarding ongoing efforts to locate a 29 year old male who was wanted and avoiding police in relation to two police pursuits as well as other traffic offences. The male was arrested at the address and conveyed to Lightning Ridge police station where he was subsequently charged with seven offences that included Police Pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (Skye’s Law) x 2; Negligent Driving; Drive Motor Vehicle During Disqualification period x 2; Use Unregistered Vehicle and Use Uninsured Vehicle. After being bail refused by Police the male went before Walgett Bail Court today 5th November, 2017 where he was provided with conditional bail to appear back before Walgett Local Court on 14th November, 2017.
