On New Year’s Eve Sunday 31 December 2017, a 29 year old male accused was at Lightning Ridge Bowling Club when he had an argument with a female patron. The accused was seen to consume an amount of alcohol after the argument. About 11:45 pm, police were conducting a walkthrough of the licenced premises and were advised of the earlier argument by the involved female. Police spoke to the accused and he appeared seriously intoxicated. He became violent when he was directed to leave the licenced premises due to his intoxication. He was able to be handcuffed and taken to the police vehicle. He lashed out while getting in to the police vehicle and kicked a police officer in the chest. He was conveyed to Lighting Ridge Police Station and charged with failing to quit licensed premises, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. He was released on conditional bail to appear before Lightning Ridge Local Court on 24 January 2018.
About 6:50 pm on Monday 1 January 2018, it will be alleged that a 32 year old female accused attended an address in Lightning Ride and maliciously damaged her ex partner’s vehicle by smashing the front windscreen. Police attended and obtained statements and patrolled the area to locate the accused. She was arrested in the afternoon of Tuesday 2 January 2018 and conveyed to Lightning Ridge Police Station. She was issued with a Court Attendance Notice to appear before Lightning Ridge Court on 24 January 2018. She was also served an interim AVO whilst in custody.
About 1:45 pm on Wednesday 3 January 2018, police attended an opal mining camp on receiving information that a 37 year old female accused, wanted on warrants, was possibly at this camp. Police located the accused and arrested her. Subsequent search of the accused revealed prohibited drugs on her person in the form of two Oxycontin tablets. She was charged with warrants and possessing prohibited drug and bail refused. She was conveyed to Dubbo where she appeared before Court and was released on conditional bail to appear before Walgett Local Court on 9 January 2018.
About 12:40 pm on Friday 5 January 2018, a 39 year old female accused attended Lightning Ridge Bore Baths car park area in her vehicle and while parking, hit a large rock which was placed outside the baths to impede drivers driving straight into the bore baths area. Police were called and the accused failed a road side breath test. She was arrested and conveyed to Lightning Ridge Police Station where she failed a subsequent breath analyses. She was charged with driving with High Range of prescribed concentration of alcohol and served with Court attendance notice to appear before Lightning Ridge Court.
It is alleged that after being released from police custody, the female accused attended the bore baths parking and set fire to her own vehicle by unknown means. When witnesses at the scene tried to assist by putting the fire out or calling 000, the accused was heard to yell out to let her vehicle burn and not to call police or Fire Brigade. The accused was arrested again and interviewed at Lightning Ridge Police Station where she made admissions about lighting the fire. Her vehicle was completely destroyed by fire which was put out with assistance from bystanders and NSW Fire Brigade. She was charged with malicious damage by fire, bail refused and conveyed to Dubbo cells. She will appear before Lighting Ridge Local Court at a later date.
