About 2:50 am on Monday 1 January 2018, a 30 year old female victim was sitting with her female friends in a house in Walgett when a 25 year old male accused approached them and claimed to own the bottle of alcohol that the victim was drinking. The accused snatched the bottle and hit the victim on her face with it and ran away from scene. Police and Ambulance attended the scene and treated the victim who had initially lost consciousness and had severe swelling and bruising from the assault. Investigations led to investigation and arrest of the accused on Thursday 4 January 2018. He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and released on bail to appear before Walgett Local Court on 9 January 2018.
About 8:40 pm on Monday 1 January 2018, a 60 year old male driver was stopped by police in Grawin while he was driving his vehicle without wearing his seatbelt. The accused driver failed a roadside breath test, was arrested and conveyed to Walgett Police Station for breath analyses. The accused failed the subsequent breath analyses and was charged with driving with middle range prescribed concentration of alcohol. He was issued with Court Attendance Notice to appear before Walgett Local Court on 23 January 2018.
About 11:15 am on Tuesday 2 January 2018, police were at an address in Walgett and served a domestic related apprehended violence order on an 18 year old male. As part of the AVO conditions, the male initially left the location but returned shortly after and in police presence, threatened to seriously assault a female victim who was also standing there. He was arrested for breaching his AVO and taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with domestic related intimidation charges. He was bail refused and conveyed to Dubbo where he appeared before Court and released on conditional bail to appear before Walgett Local Court at a later date.
About 1:40 pm on Thursday 4 January 2018, a couple, both 19 old, were at their home in Walgett when they had an argument. This argument escalated and it will be alleged that the male accused assaulted his female partner several times and caused damage to their rented house by kicking on the bedroom and the front doors. The victim, after getting assaulted, ran away from the scene and attended Walgett Police Station and an investigation was commenced. The accused was arrested a short time later in Namoi Village and brought to Walgett Police Station and charged with domestic related assault occasioning actual bodily harm and recklessly causing damage to property. He was released on conditional bail to appear before Walgett Local Court on 9 January 2018.
About 3:30 pm on Thursday 4 January 2018, police were patrolling Walgett when they observed a small motor bike being ridden near the intersection of Peel Street and Dewhurst Street, Walgett by a 21 year old male rider known to them. As the rider was not wearing a helmet, police stopped the motorbike on Dewhurst Street. The male rider could not produce a valid Rider’s licence and the motorbike was found to be unregistered and uninsured. The male was issued with Court attendance notice to appear before Walgett Local Court for traffic related offences.
About 10:00 pm on Friday 5 January 2018, police attended Arthur Street, Walgett in relation to an alleged brawl occurring. Police dealt with several people who were intoxicated and were arguing and physically fighting on the street. Enquiries revealed that a 52 year old female had been assaulted by a 25 year old male known to her which was the reason for the brawl. While investigating, the 25 year old male assaulted a police officer and was arrested. He was conveyed to Walgett Police Station. Enquiries revealed that the female victim had received a cut in her lips for which she required suturing and had several loose teeth which will require to be fixed by a dentist at a later stage. The accused was charged with domestic related assault occasioning actual bodily harm of the 52 year old female and assault of the police officer and bail refused. He appeared before Court on Saturday 6 January 2018 where he was released on strict conditional bail. He will appear before Walgett Local Court on Tuesday 9 January 2018.
